About this deal

Studies have found that some of them, like silicone and green tea, have benefits. Others, like onion skin and aloe vera, are unproven for treating scar tissue but may have value for soothing skin. We applied a thin layer of the gel, turned on the vibrating wand, and ran it over the scar area for about two minutes, then applied a scar sheet to leave on for the rest of the day or overnight. Our scar was pretty tough: a pea-sized keloid scar we’ve had for about 20 years. While we didn’t see dramatic results (that’s to be expected with keloid scars, which usually require surgery), we noticed a less dense scar at the end of testing. Park G, et al. (2008). Green tea polyphenol epigallocatechin-3-gallate suppresses collagen production and proliferation in keloid fibroblasts via inhibition of the STAT3-signaling pathway. Cho YS, et al. (2014). The effect of burn rehabilitation massage therapy on hypertrophic scar after burn: A randomized controlled trial. A 2020 review of six studies found that the use of topically applied silicone was beneficial for preventing post-operative scar formation. Researchers also found that topically applied silicone sheets or gel significantly reduced scar pigmentation and height. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)

We tested the Aroamas Scar Professional Silicone Scar Sheets on a four-year-old scar on our face where the skin was damaged enough to prohibit hair growth in that area. While it was a little awkward to cut the sheets down to the appropriate size for a facial scar (and we couldn’t leave the sheets on 24/7, as recommended) we were still impressed with the results we saw. Scars are a part of the skin's natural healing process and are the body’s way of repairing itself. Scars can appear in different shapes and sizes, they will usually fade over time but may never completely disappear. Scars are caused by breaks in the skin that may be the result of injury, burns or surgery. If you’re ready to seriously invest in treating a scar yourself the Sunnie Skin SCAR SMOOTH™ Medical Grade Scar Reducing Kit contains more than one tool to help you reduce the appearance of scars. Even though there were three components (a gel, a wand, and a roll of scar tape), it didn’t take us more than five minutes a day to run through all the steps of the kit.

As an ingredient in topical treatments, it has been found to reduce inflammation and to be beneficial at various stages of wound healing, including tissue remodeling. Tissue remodeling refers to the cleanup of inflammatory cells that occurs as a wound is healing and scar tissue forms. Atrophic scarring is sometimes referred to as pitted skin. This type of scar typically looks like an indented hole, or pit.

Sodium hyaluronate and hyaluronic acid trap water in the fluid between the cells of your skin. Your skin’s natural levels of this ingredient drop over time, which is why children’s skin heals much faster than adults’.Bio-Oil Multiuse Skincare Oil: This oil was super hydrating, but also kind of messy. And while it helped clear up our mild scabbing, it didn’t do much in terms of changing the appearance of our scars. Derma E Scar Gel: We liked the ease of application with this gel, but the lavender scent was overpowering and the small amount you get for the cost seemed a little unreasonable since it didn’t have a hugely noticeable effect on our scars. It’s pretty rare to reach adulthood without a scar, and many of us continue to collect battle scars over the years. Injuries, surgery and skin problems leave shiny lines, dents and lumps in our skin, while scars such as stretch marks and dark spots are an almost inevitable part of ageing. You may assume that all these scars are permanent, but the best scar creams and gels can fade and shrink them, including the scars you’ve had for years. EGCG is an antioxidant found in green tea. Since it is water soluble, it can’t adhere to skin or scar tissue on its own. Emollients such as shea butter, coconut oil and candelilla wax dramatically soften the skin and help to restore its elasticity, and also help to protect it by creating a smooth barrier to seal in moisture. As a bonus, natural emollients like these are vegan and cruelty-free alternatives to lanolin, which is derived from sheep’s wool.
