About this deal

Recently I had the opportunity to easily get underneath my Note and noticed that some of the exhaust heat shield clips are missing from the rear section, presumably corroded and fallen off. The remaining ones seem to be OK. I looked up myself before posting a few listings and they too came up with VW transporter, Golf fitment. But, didn't fit a Fabia for whatever reason. I thought not, but the listing is for a VW Transporter. I know VW parts are similar to Skoda, but the listing didn't state Skoda Fabia mk1.

Anyone replaced their heat shield clips recently? Sounded like exhaust was falling off, but after prodding around it was a clip that was corroded. Others didn't look too healthy, neither. I have searched and an old thread showed a part number Now your ready & can remove the Fixing nut & clean off as much loose material that you can from the heat shield/car.Simply get your drinks can ( or other material of your choice is similar ) cut out a suitably large piece of metal that will cover the hole in the shield & also plenty of the surrounding shield too. When Nissan designed the car, if they thought that it didn't require any rear heat shields, they wouldn't have fitted any, it would have saved them millions of pounds Not to fit any. They don't think, "we'll fit heat shields for the fun of it, not to worry about the cost" Model: 05 Octy 2 Eleg Hatch, 1.9 TDI, Sahara Beige 260k, 2011 170 TDI DSG Superb Estate, vRS Fabia 2005/55 How do the clips come off? Just looking at mine now, it all seems ok so I don't want to break any of the plastic lug things taking the clips off. They are a different type of part than the one used on the under bonnet sound proofing, so just buy some, but, be aware that in most cases, the original retainers will still be on the car but rusted up, and the reason that you are finding that the heat shield has fallen down is because it is made of some aluminium alloy kind of material, and these retainers are zinc'd steel - so that has started a reaction that has locally trashed the aluminium alloy material - and it has "gone" and the heat shield now has a big hole in it where originally it had a small hole for the retainer's stud to pass through. So that means that you will need to make up some thin metal disc patches/repair washers to cover these holes when you go to fit new retainers. I'm thinking about just replacing the bands with the adjustable bands you see on rubber couplings at Home Depot for joining ABS plastic pipe or cast iron pipe like the 3 or 4" bands. The info about the tabs is useful. There are 3 rusty 'bits' which I could not identify which I now know are the remains of the tabs. If you have already used method 1 & the rust bug has got hold once more or you just want to only fix the one point with minimal under the car time then this is the method for you.

sorry to be bringing up an old thread, but I think my heat shield is rattling. I thought at first it was my a/c compressor since the rattle comes & goes and I thought that the heat from the a/c compressor was causing the rattle. The stud has a screw thread. So after initially pushing the washers on, can rotate them through one of the slots to tighten slightly.
